About Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial

The Corporation

The Corporation consists of a six member Board of Directors and an Advisory Committee that assists with technical matters and special events. Among the Advisory Committee members are City Parks Director Ivan Anderholm. In preparation for serving as the fundraising arm of the Memorial, the Corporation has been approved by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and is registered under Oregon’s Charitable Trust and Corporation Act with the Department of Justice.

The Partnership

The Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial Board of Directors partnered with the City of Lake Oswego to design and build a Memorial in honor of the service of U.S. military veterans and first responders. The Memorial is located in the City’s river front Foothills Park. On June 7, 2016, an agreement was passed by the City Council for the Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial Corporation to seek donations for funding the design and construction of the Memorial.

Mission Statement

Our Mission was to partner with the City of Lake Oswego to build a memorial for historic preservation of the service of all U.S. military veterans and first responders in Lake Oswego, Oregon and areas in and around the region.

Goals

  • Development of an artistic environment – to provide an inviting place to remember and reflect on service through an artistic setting for tributes; artistic beauty has been brought to life through design of a featured granite wall, memorial benches, honor walls, and other artwork designed and developed in conjunction with the arts community of our city.
  • Educational and community enrichment – to help educate students in schools, community organizations and the public about the service and heroism that ensures our security and liberty. The names and stories memorialized will help connect our community to its history and heritage and appreciation for its freedom.
  • Identification/verification of the individuals who are eligible for recognition at the Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial in accordance with By-Laws of the organization – to ensure accuracy of the historic record that is visually portrayed at the memorial.

“It is an honor to serve on the Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial Board. My entire family has served in the military, and some are presently serving on active duty today. I understand the sacrifice they go through every day to keep us safe and protect our freedom. I am glad that this group has been formed to make the Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial a reality. I know that this will be a very special place for the residents. I am excited to serve on the board and show my support for our military forces and first responders. “

“I proudly served in the Navy JAG Corps, and come from a military family, including grandparents, father and two sons. I’ve been in the Lake Oswego area, on and off, for over 40 years. It’s a real privilege to combine that background and serve on this Board. The Veterans Memorial is a beautiful tribute to those who’ve served our country and community, and will live on as a commitment to our values.”
